Research seminar
- Type of activity: compulsory activity
- Number of hours: 10. The expected duration is about 10 hours per academic year.
- Details and planning of training activity: Participation in group/team seminars and/or Center/Department conferences in which external and internal guest researchers speak.
- Time schedule: From the first year and periodically during all academic years.
- Part-time students: less frequent participation (reduction to 1/3 with respect to TC), adapting their participation in these seminars to the established deadlines. An attempt will be made, as far as possible, to carry out these activities at times when these students are available.
- Control procedure for the training activity: Attendance and participation evaluation through monitoring of the doctoral student by his/her director/tutor and/or researchers responsible for the line of research in which the doctoral student is working.
Paper presentation
- Type of activity: compulsory activity
- Number of hours: 1.5. Although the number of hours is variable, the expected number of hours is a presentation of approximately 30 minutes in a seminar per academic year.
- Details and planning of the training activity: Presentation in a group seminar of a relevant scientific article taken from a recent bibliographic search.
- Planning: From the first year and periodically during the academic years.
- Control procedure for the training activity: The doctors of the group will assess the scientific rigor and clarity of presentation.
Participation in congress
- Type of activity: compulsory activity
- Number of hours: 50. Although the number of hours is variable and the duration of the activity will depend on the place where the congress is held, as well as the duration of the same, it could be estimated at about 50 hours.
- Detail and planning of the training activity: Participation in a National Congress in the field of a basic discipline close to the thesis topic. In the second and/or third year of the thesis, the doctoral student will participate by presenting his/her own research results.
- Planning: From the first year.
- Control procedure for the training activity: Evaluation of the participation by the director/tutor. It will be reflected in the Doctoral Student Activities Document.
Presentation of own results
- Type of activity: compulsory activity
- Number of hours: 4. Although the number of hours will be variable, depending on the time required for the preparation of the presentation, the oral presentation of the results will last a maximum of 20 min.
- Detail and planning of training activity: Presentation of own results in a group/team meeting or seminar, with the director/tutor present. From the second year onwards the doctoral student will make at least one presentation of his/her own results in a Center/Department seminar.
Presentation of own results on at least one occasion at a meeting or seminar convened biannually by the Inter-University Academic Committee of the Doctoral Program. - Control procedure for the training activity: Attendance and evaluation participation through monitoring of the doctoral student by his/her director/tutor and/or researchers responsible for the line of research in which the doctoral student is working.
International communication presentation
- Type of activity: compulsory activity
- Number of hours: 20
- Details and planning of training activity: Presentation of a communication at an international congress.
- Planning: At least once.
- Control procedure for the training activity: Certificate of participation and registration of the activity in the Activities Report, which will be reported by the director/tutor and evaluated annually by the A.C.
- Mobility actions: According to the International Congress in which the participant will participate.
Stay in a center of recognized international prestige.
- Type of activity: Compulsory activity
- Number of hours: It is considered a mobility of 3 months.
- Details and planning of training activity: Mobility stay in a center of recognized international prestige and different from the organization's own.
- Planning: At least once.
- Control procedure for the training activity: Registration of the activity in the Activity Report, which will be reported by the director/tutor and evaluated annually by the C.A.
- Mobility actions: According to the stay carried out.
Scientific article
- Type of activity: Compulsory activity
- Number of hours: Although the time required for the preparation of an article is difficult to quantify, it could be estimated at about 100 hours.
- Details and planning of training activity: Submitting an article to a journal for publication.
- Planning: At least one during the research period.
- Control procedure for the training activity: Editorial response to the article.
Annual report
- Type of activity: mandatory activity
- Number of hours: from 10 to 40 min in the case of oral presentation of the report.
- Detail and planning of the training activity: Annual report, and oral presentation if necessary, to a commission of three professors of the program of the work carried out within the thesis project, results obtained during the year and proposal of the work/activities for the following year.
- Control procedure for the formative activity: Evaluation Committee
Training course
- Type of activity: optional activity
- Number of hours: 15. It is estimated that the training course would have a duration of at least 15 hours.
- Detail and planning of training activity: To carry out a permanent training course for PDI of your center (e.g. Safety in the laboratory, scientific English, specific software, etc).
- Control procedure for the training activity: Final Certificate and registration of the activity in the Activities Report, which will be reported by the director/tutor and evaluated annually by the Commission.
Summer School - Workshop
- Type of activity: optional activity
- Number of hours: 20. Although the number of hours can be very variable, it is considered that a course could have a duration of 20 hours.
- Details and planning of training activity: Participation in Summer School or Workshop of interest for the research work.
- Control procedure for the training activity: Final Certificate and registration of the activity in the Activities Report, which will be reported by the director/tutor and evaluated annually by the Commission.
- Mobility actions: According to the course carried out.
Transversal training activities
Within the offer of transversal training courses or seminars of each university participating in the program, the doctoral student may carry out, with the approval of his/her thesis supervisor, transversal training activities of interest for the development of his/her thesis and in thematic areas such as:

- Information resources in science and technology
- Language and communication skills
- Methodology in research
- Innovation and creativity
- Creation of companies and spin-offs
- Other thematic areas of interest for the training of doctoral students.
- Number of hours: 4 hours in the first two years for full-time students or in the first three years for part-time students.
- Detail and planning of training activities: To take at least one course on one of the following topics: specific software, access to databases and electronic resources, occupational risk prevention, handling of specific equipment and instrumentation, etc. Each student will select or schedule, according to his/her needs and availability, the courses to be taken. To do so, he/she will be guided by his/her tutor and/or director.
- Control procedure for the training activity: This activity will be controlled by means of the attendance certificate that each student must present.
